The VP, Network Infrastructure role is a technical leadership people leader position to empower and guide the Infrastructure and Data Center teams to perform day-to-day and strategic tasks efficiently. It is a pivotal role that involves cross-functional collaboration across many Five9 teams to ensure the successful design, build, deploy, operations, and change of lab and production environments. The ideal candidate for this role will have a deep understanding of data center management (power, space, cooling), compute, storage and virtualization technologies, system administration including networking, strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, excellent communication skills, and proven organizational leadership abilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the network infrastructure teams responsible for design, deployment, scale-out and support of compute, storage and virtualization infrastructure in global locations (both lab and production) – in private (co-lo) and public clouds (GCP, AWS)
- Develop and execute team’s vision and roadmap to ensure critical infrastructure is highly available, secure and scalable to meet rapid growth demands
- Manage/control costs and access to data centers (especially public cloud environments)
- Build relationships and collaborate with other Cloud Operations teams, QA, Engineering, and Release Management teams to ensure automated/consistent/repeatable deployments and configurations, and timely completion of relevant projects
- Pro-actively manage capacity, technology life cycle, effectiveness and delivery of infrastructure services
- Ensure 24x7 incident response (including staff on-call rotation)
- Define key operational team metrics and provide regular reports to management
Requirements:
- Automate everything mindset 7+ years in a technical operations teams, including data center and public cloud operations 3+ years of previous hands-on Linux/Unix/Windows System Administration; deploying and configuring compute blade (for e.g., UCS) and bare metal (HP, Cisco) servers, storage (NetApp, HP 3PAR) and virtualization (VMware)
- 5+ years of experience managing high-performance Network and Infrastructure teams (preferably distributed geographically) supporting 24x7x365 production/cloud platforms
- Solid background in vendor management, cost negotiations, tracking contract/support renewals
- Experience with deployment technologies such as Rundeck, Ansible/Puppet,Terraform, Docker and Kubernetes, highly desired
- Excellent cross-functional collaborative and communication skills working with multiple departments
- Solid experience with change management (ITIL), incident management and post-mortem process
- B.S. in Computer Science or equivalent experience
This role is fully remote for candidates who reside at least 50 miles away from our San Francisco or San Ramon office locations. For candidates who reside within 50 miles of our San Francisco or San Ramon locations, this role will be Hybrid.
