About The Role:
YipitData is looking for an experienced Tax Manager to join our Finance team! This is a unique opportunity to work at a high-growth FinTech company together with entrepreneurial yet supportive colleagues.
In this role, you will utilize your tax compliance experience, ambition, and high attention to detail to own and manage our global tax strategy, prepare and file state and local taxes and fees, and gain exposure to the accounting and reporting cycles in a fast-paced dynamic environment.
This is a remote-friendly opportunity that can sit in NYC (where our headquarter is located), one of our office hubs (Austin, Miami, Denver, Mountain View, or Seattle), or anywhere else in the US.
As our Tax Manager, you will be responsible for (but are not limited to):
- Tax Preparation:
- Accurately prepare and file state and local taxes, including franchise and other fees, in a timely manner
- Review and file monthly sales and use tax returns through Avalara for multiple states
- Review annual income tax returns and quarterly/yearly tax projections provided by our external tax team for both federal and state
- Prepare and file forms 1099 and 3921 annually
- Review annual tax provision with input from our external tax accountants
- Plan for and develop overall return calendar and coordinate timing with treasury management for cash payments to ensure no late penalties or interest charges
- Strategy and Risk Management:
- Develop and implement strategic tax planning for our global entities
- Identify and mitigate tax risks by implementing controls and procedures that ensure accurate and compliant tax practices
- Find and implement opportunities for process improvement in company tax procedures
- Tax Compliance: Ensure full compliance with laws and regulations for all legal entities
- Monitor legislative and regulatory tax law developments, communicate the effects of these developments to management, and create strategies to capitalize on changes to taxation legislation
- Monitor and update internal tax filing calendar to ensure timely filings
- Monitor and update tax nexus (economic and physical) on a monthly basis, and register with Secretary of State in new jurisdictions, as needed
- Monitor and update sales taxability of our products in registered states
- Other:
- Serve as the primary tax contact within the organization, communicating with external auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory bodies. Also, provide tax expertise and guidance to internal stakeholders
- Reconcile tax liability and asset account balances on the general ledger and book tax expense accruals on a monthly basis
- Manage and own any inbound tax inquiries via email
- Partner with Accounting on the annual financial audit and other ad job projects
You Are Likely To Succeed If:
- You have a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Tax (Masters degree optional)
- You have a CPA, which is required and must be active
- You have at least 5 years experience in Tax (management, audit, compliance or similar) role in a fast-paced environment including prior experience working with international tax
- A combination of public (Big 4 preferred) Corporate tax and private tax experience
- Extensive experience in tax planning, tax compliance, and the preparation of tax returns, with a proven track record in a similar role
- Deep understanding of federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations, including international tax laws for global organizations
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) and attention to detail
- Strong analytical and research skills
- Intermediate Excel skills and financial modeling experience
What We Offer:
Our compensation package includes comprehensive benefits, perks, and a competitive salary:
- The annual base salary for this position is anticipated to be $110,000~$125,000 USD. The final offer may be determined by a number of factors, including, but not limited to, the applicant's experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal team benchmarks.
- This role may be performed fully remotely within the United States. Please note that our US headquarters are located in NYC. We also have office hubs in Austin, Miami, Denver, Mountain View, and Seattle. If the remote work is performed outside of these offices, income will be subject to New York State tax withholding.
