The Tax Manager will join Discord’s dynamic Tax team and be an integral part of the global tax function. You will play a key role in helping the team with day-to-day tax operations functions such as tax planning, global tax compliance and reporting, tax controversy and other tax projects to support business needs. This position will work closely with key accounting, engineering, finance, legal, and other business partners across Discord.

You should be a team leader, problem solver and self-starter who can drive initiatives with executive leadership, internal stakeholders and external advisers. The successful candidate will display a balance of hard and soft skills, including the ability to respond quickly to changing business needs.
What You'll Be Doing
- Drive global tax planning and initiatives, collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with tax laws and proactively identify ways to optimize our tax strategy
- Manage global tax reporting and compliance related to transactional taxes (sales, telecom, VAT, GST, and other similar taxes)
- Monitor developments in domestic and international tax regulations and reporting requirements
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with relevant stakeholders to ensure efficient implementation of new business and tax initiatives
- Lead tax aspects of business transformations, M&A activity, Vertex maintenance, and ERP system implementations to achieve operational efficiencies
- Manage tax audits and voluntary disclosure agreements in conjunction with external advisers including data collection, settlement recommendation and other aspects of audit/litigation
- Review an analyze intercompany agreements and transfer pricing studies
- Assist with month end close process including G/L analysis, accrual calculations, and journal entries
- Tax research and documentation of tax accounting and other tax technical matters
What you should have
- 7-10 years of corporate tax experience with Big 4 and/or Private Industry with a meaningful global indirect tax experience and proven track record in corporate tax compliance
- Strong understanding of transactional tax concepts and ability to apply knowledge to various business requirements
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, including the ability to effectively problem solve and make decisions
- Commitment to producing quality work and attention to detail to ensure work is delivered completely, accurately, and on time
- Excellent time management skills and ability to flourish in a challenging, fast-paced professional work environment
- Exceptional communication skills (written, verbal, technical and non-technical)
- Experience managing and collaborating with diverse and cross-functional teams
Bonus Points
- Software/technology industry experience preferred
- CPA or MST or JD/LLM preferred

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $167,000 to $184,000 + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role and level. Within the range, individual pay is determined by additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
