The role
We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer (Contract) to join the Transactional Fraud Squad. The Fraud Squad’s mission is to fortify member trust and minimize fraud losses across Checking, Savings, Invest and Credit Card by building safety into the architecture of the products.
On the Fraud Squad, you’ll be a member of a fast-paced, dynamic team of full-stack engineers. Fraud mitigation requires maintaining a unique balance of scrappy pragmatism against long-term planning and execution in order to quickly fend off emerging attacks while building a maintainable, forward-thinking architecture.
As a Staff Engineer, you'll be tasked with designing and building critical components and features. You will work closely with stakeholders across the company, implement battle-tested patterns and interfaces, squash bugs, refactor code and continually grow as an engineer. The ideal candidate is both forward-thinking and hands-on, has a strong sense of ownership and drive for delivery, and is a good mentor and co-worker. Additionally, you will demonstrate SoFi’s core values by honing your skills as an effective communicator, showing personal responsibility, and setting ambitious goals. If you like working on problems with tangible and lasting impact, we would love to have you on our team!
What you’ll do:
- Develop innovative features and machine learning models leveraging one of the deepest datasets in the fintech space.
- Partner with experts in product strategy and management to lead the industry in risk and fraud solutions
- Own major aspects of the technical architecture of the product
- Drive the adoption of machine learning techniques across the engineering organization by developing tools and training techniques
- Collaborate with platform developers to design and build Galileo’s machine learning platform
- Drive large new features from investigation through design and implementation
- Deliver highly available and scalable services in a production environment
- Mentor other engineers, support the technical culture, and help grow the team
- Generate ideas for new initiatives and technologies
What you’ll need:
- Bachelor’s degree, ideally in a technical field, but we understand great engineers come from a variety of different backgrounds and also consider relevant work experience
- 6+ years experience working with modern technologies on a full-stack team
- Strong knowledge of object-oriented programming best practices
- Strong sense of responsibility; driving a project from inception to completion
- Willingness to roll up your sleeves, collaborate with others and get stuff done
- Affinity for solving problems and shipping impactful features, not polishing perfect code or architecture
- Experience working in a collaborative coding environment, refining designs together, working through code reviews and managing pull requests
- Strong communication and technical leadership skills
- Desire to mentor and help others improve their skills
Nice to have:
- Proven track record of building highly-scalable REST APIs
- Experience with workflow orchestration systems, such as Temporal.io
- Prior experience deploying applications using Docker and Kubernetes
- Practical knowledge of CI/CD pipelines (gradle, git, automated testing and deployments)
- History of working with a cloud-based microservice architecture and distributed service communications
