Staff Data Scientist, Safety Insights

San Francisco, CA

Reddit is poised to rapidly innovate and grow like no other time in its history, and user safety is a critical accelerant of that growth.  We are looking for a Staff Data Scientist to join our Safety Insights Data Science team, and lead strategic and product analytics for community safety, moderator safety, and connecting safety signals to users’ safety experiences.  You will partner with Community Safety and Moderation product and engineering teams, as well as Safety Signals, Safety ML, User Research and fellow Safety data scientists.  Your impact will be in the forms of strategic influence, execution support, cross-functional thought leadership, and analytical leadership in the data science team.

The Safety Org is one of Reddit’s biggest divisions, and Safety Insights works across the entire org to provide qualitative (user research) and quantitative (data science) insights for product development, scaled abuse detection/mitigation, threat intelligence, and safety operations.  We unravel hard problems that cut across safety domains, and guide product development to protect our users from bad experiences.  In the Safety Insights team, we value asking who’s missing, surfacing the deeper questions, up-leveling our peers, and facilitating good conversations.  Our job is tough, but the impact is huge.

Reddit has a flexible workforce!  If you happen to live close to one of our physical office locations our doors are open for you to come into the office as often as you’d like. Don’t live near one of our offices? No worries: You can apply to work remotely from anywhere in the United States.

  • Use data to inform strategic directions of community safety and moderator safety product development, and understand the impact of product launches;
  • Use data to shape how safety signals and ML scores should be used to enhance user experience;
  • Provide guidance to the rest of the company on how to balance growth and safety considerations in product launches and experiments;
  • Be a thought leader and driver of Safety’s data science vision.

Who You Might Be:

  • 6+ years of data science and product analytics industry experience
  • 2+ years of experience in product development focused on user or community experience; trust & safety experience is a bonus
  • Proficiency with relational database (SQL), programming (Python), statistics, experimentation, and causal inference analyses
  • Motivated and self-directed, demonstrated ability to innovate and bias toward action in fast-paced environments
  • Ability to communicate and discuss complex topics with technical and non-technical audiences
  • Ability to tackle ambiguous and undefined problems

  • Comprehensive Healthcare Benefits
  • 401k Matching
  • Workspace benefits for your home office
  • Personal & Professional development funds
  • Family Planning Support
  • Flexible Vacation (please use them!) & Reddit Global Wellness Days
