Toast is scaling rapidly and with that growth comes an exciting new opportunity to join the management team for our Fintech organization in Bangalore.  We are looking for an Engineering Manager to lead our  Chargeback Experiences and Payment Onboarding team where we will be building the next generation of Chargeback Dispute and Payment Onboarding ecosystem.  We want to enable our customers to dispute chargebacks frictionless with ease and help our customers get on boarded on our payment ecosystem within a day.

As a Engineering Manager on our team, you will:

  • Bring your domain and general experience to architect complex systems at scale and possess expert knowledge in performance, scalability and engineering best practices.
  • Drive overall technical architecture, design, build and launch features/improvements on our platform. 
  • Be involved in complex, high-impact projects that may span multiple teams and amplify their impact by aligning organizations toward coherent architectural strategies.
  • Drive delivery of business outcomes across multiple teams, including planning and execution 
  • Collaborate closely with Product Owner, PM and UX to get actionable, valuable work defined for the team
  • Keep product quality high in collaboration with QA 
  • Ensure end-to-end delivery of software, including team ownership of monitoring and production issue remediation
  • Coach individuals in professional and technical development to set up for their success
  • Hire and mentor Team Leads and Senior Technical Staff members to ensure their success at Toast
  • Encourage all parties and the community on advanced technical issues and help managers guide the career growth of their team members.

The Toast Fintech platform  processes tens of millions of requests per day, and this number grows constantly as we add new restaurants and integration partners to our system. The services we develop on this team are essential for Toast’s operation and their resilience and reliability are crucial from a business and user perspective.

Do you have the right ingredients? (Experience)

  • 8+ years of building scalable and distributed systems.
  • 2+ years of managing, coaching and growing successful teams
  • Highly proficient knowledge in a high-level programming language such as Java, Kotlin, Go, etc. No problems if you have experience with other languages. Good engineers can adapt.
  • Excellent knowledge in other parts of the stack, Postgres, JavaScript (React), Flutter
  • Enjoys building well-engineered, usable, and accessible systems
  • Experience working in a team with Agile/Scrum methodology
  • Have knowledge of and experience in building backend services/APIs
  • Have a strong understanding of software engineering, distributed systems, and Event Platforms gained from hands-on experience building fault-tolerant and secure applications.
  • You have experience working with product teams to invent solutions that deliver good outcomes to our customers and the company
  • A bias towards action, with the ability to balance between getting things done and making things perfect
  • A strong sense of empathy for customers and teammates
  • A desire to build a diverse team that wins together and prioritizes customer success
