Senior UI Artist

Remote
Design

Overview

1047 Games began with the simple principle that people should have fun while making great games. Bucking convention and driven by a passion to create the ultimate gaming experience, Ian Proulx and Nicholas Bagamian founded 1047 Games in 2017 in their Stanford dorm room. Their love for arena shooters of the past drove them to create Splitgate, a unique sci-fi first-person shooter that adds portal guns to upend the genre.

What started as two computer science majors putting portals into a first-person shooter for a project demo has evolved into a VC-backed company which has raised more than $120MM in funding.

At 1047 Games, you’ll find a permanently remote, dedicated team of top-tier talent from some of the world’s biggest gaming and tech companies who share our founders’ vision. Grit, ingenuity, a desire to have fun, and a start up mentality define our crew. We are currently working on a brand new shooter in the Splitgate universe.

What we’re looking for:

  • A passionate artist: You have a great attention to detail and a passion for crafting beautiful UI experiences
  • A hard worker: You love to put in the extra effort, not because you are told, but because you enjoy your work and know the impact of finishing the tasks on hand
  • A passionate gamer: You are a gamer who grew up playing games and can recognize what separates exceptional games from the average ones. You understand the mindset of gamers which enables you to create and implement features that will further benefit the game

What you will be doing:

  • Craft and iterate on high-fidelity visual comps, prototypes, and polished designs for game features and HUD
  • Create artwork, iconography, and rasterized assets that are high-quality and optimized for the game
  • Work with UX designers to visualize various interface solutions
  • Work with art leadership to achieve desired visual direction and ensure consistency
  • Work in Unreal Engine (UMG) to bring designs to implementation with the engineering team, and push for improvements to workflow
  • Collaborate with a variety of disciplines including art, design, engineering, audio, and production

What you will need:

  • 3+ years of experience working in interactive media with a focus on user interface design
  • Game industry experience on at least 1 commercially shipped title
  • Strong sense of composition, color, and working knowledge of graphic design fundamentals
  • High proficiency in Photoshop, Illustrator, Figma, or other industry-standard design tools
  • Good communication, interpersonal, organizational, and time management capabilities
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, strategic, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Passion for games
  • Love for visual design and awareness of trends future, current, and date

What will also be helpful:

  • Ability to create logos, symbols, illustrative emblems, and icons
  • Technical proficiency in Unreal Engine (UMG)
  • Motion graphics experience
  • Technical proficiency in scripting materials (shaders)
  • Familiarity with accessibility best practices and designing with them in mind
  • Comfortable designing for immersive end to end user experiences
  • Demonstrated history crafting style guides and/or component style libraries
