We are in search of a Senior Consultant interested in joining the Actian Professional Services team. The primary focus of this position is to provide the highest quality post-sales consulting and support (technical, operational / production) to a variety of customers using the Actian products in mission-critical settings.

The successful candidate must be able to work independently with minimal supervision, be thorough while being efficient, and contribute to team efforts through collaboration and knowledge sharing. This position requires a seasoned technical person who is proficient at all phases of the development lifecycle from architecture to implementation. Candidates must be able to interface with external business, management, and technical stakeholders to achieve results and meet objectives.

Primary Responsibilities:

Solve complex, analytical problems either alone or in a team. These problems are often related to production issues or outages, and a sense of urgency balanced with diligence is required

Design and implement solutions to utilize Actian products to support customer needs and goals

Follow and maintain support policies and procedures, processes, and best practices.

Create required documentation for activities such as client support, site visits, bug reports, reproducible test cases, and unit test plans

Work with customers and internal teams executing project planning and management processes, design and design review efforts, and testing activities

Maintain current skills related to the use of Actian products and standard industry tools, technologies, and best practices in order to use them in everyday tasks

Create and deliver presentations for technical and non-technical audiences

Participate in the On-Call rotation for night, weekend, and holiday support

Job Qualifications:

Knowledge of Operating Systems, their structure, operation, and diagnostic techniques

In depth knowledge of databases and relational algebra. Experience in two or more relational database systems. Vector or Ingres a plus

Knowledge of computer networking models, network configuration and diagnostics, and JDBC (Java Database Connectivity) or .NET environments

Software development experience in C, C++, C#, Java, Python, JavaScript, PHP, or similar languages

Experience and knowledge of cloud services such as AWS (Amazon Web Services), Azure, and Google Cloud

Proficient in the use, creation, analysis, and debugging of SQL queries and scripts

Proficient in the design and development of applications that use databases

Proficient at designing and implementing solutions of various levels of complexity and integration with other products in a production environment

Ability to work on multiple projects at one time, prioritizing tasks to meet critical and sometimes changing deadlines

Experience in techniques, designing, testing, and execution of disaster recovery plans

Knowledge of security systems, authentication, authorization, and access control systems in operating systems and databases

Excellent written and oral communication skills in English

Some knowledge of analytic tools such as Dataflow, Talend, Pentaho, and similar

Experience with multi-national character sets and Unicode

Experience in production operations of database or IT (Information Technology) related systems

Experience with ETL/Data Integration solutions such as DataConnect, Boomi, Informatica, and similar.

Education, Experience and Certifications: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent.

Minimum 5-7 years of database design and development experience

Business Travel: Approximately 10% travel if required
