About the Role:
As a Senior Mechanical Engineer at Motive, you will be responsible for the mechanical design, development, and quality of products. You will be responsible for solving technical challenges in order to meet product objectives. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver on product scope. You will identify and implement technical investigations, prototype and test solutions. You will design, validate, and deliver a product with exceptional customer experience.
You will show hands-on experience and the ability to communicate effectively. You will demonstrate creative problem-solving, experience with systems integration, and strong knowledge of mechanical systems, processes, and materials. You should be able to follow an iterative design process and be able to quickly pivot and integrate any changes throughout the product life cycle. You will also show a commitment to support multiple projects at the same time.
What You’ll Do:
- Use technical expertise for problem-solving
- Deliver detailed part and system design and documentation from the initial concept through mass production
- Apply technical expertise to resolve design issues
- Complete failure analysis and validate solutions during product development
- Complete field failure analysis and validate solutions for production issues
- Lead mechanical design discussions among internal and external cross-functional teams (ID, EE, RF, Antenna, Camera, Audio, Manufacturing) to arrive at appropriate design tradeoffs
- Manage schedules and milestones
- Research into materials and mechanical systems
- Provide hands-on support during NPI builds at manufacturing partner sites
- Conduct design reviews, prepare and deliver status updates to leadership when needed
What We’re Looking For:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- 10+ years of experience in automotive product and mounting design
- 10+ years of experience in product validation (Shock/Drop, Cycle testing, Environmental testing)
- 10+ years’ experience with 3D CAD skills, ProEngineer
- Experience with thermal analysis and simulations
- Experience with structural analysis and simulations
- Knowledge of tooling and material process validation (SPC, Cp, CpK)
- Analytical problem-solving skills, including knowledge of 8D, Six Sigma, DOE, or similar
- Plus: Experience with waterproofing design and mount design
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
