Inovalon is seeking a Senior Health Data Scientist to drive pre-sales data mining and feasibility analyses that support diversification and growth of Inovalon’s real-world data licensing business. Key functions of the position include 1) pulling and integrating patient-level data from large-scale medical and pharmacy databases (enrollment, claims, EHR/EMR, etc.) and 2) generating reports and dashboards that convey the potential value of Inovalon’s data assets to prospective life sciences and data licensing customers. Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Utilizes SQL to extract, integrate, and analyze patient-level datasets derived from Inovalon’s large-scale, proprietary databases
- Performs descriptive and statistical analyses using large patient (EHR/EMR) and/or claims databases in support of business and product development engagements
- Develops, documents, and implements flexible data extraction algorithms, analytical routines, and reporting templates for reuse with a diverse set of internal and external customers
- Lends technical expertise, as appropriate, to the development of analysis plans, technical specifications, and summary reports
- Collaborates with cross-functional project teams, including Data Solutions, Engineering, Product, and Sales to deliver meaningful, accurate insights to customers
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in biostatistics, computer science, epidemiology, health services research, mathematics, or a related field
- 5+ years of experience writing code using SQL to manipulate, integrate, and analyze large government and/or commercial healthcare claims and enrollment datasets
- Proficiency executing analytic engagements using large administrative medical and pharmacy claims, EHR/EMR, and other data derived from public (e.g., Medicare, Medicaid, VA) and private databases
- Ability to create clean and accurate summary output and delivery files (e.g., delimited, SAS, Excel)
- Maintain compliance with Inovalon’s policies, procedures and mission statement
- Adhere to all confidentiality and HIPAA requirements as outlined within Inovalon’s Operating Policies and Procedures in all ways and at all times with respect to any aspect of the data handled or services rendered in the undertaking of the position
- Fulfill those responsibilities and/or duties that may be reasonably provided by Inovalon for the purpose of achieving operational and financial success of the Employer
Additional Skills and Competencies:
- Experience programming and analyzing data using R and Python
- Experience working with data visualization software (e.g., Tableau, Power BI)
- Demonstrated problem solving, analytical reasoning, and decision-making skills and strong commitment to meeting goals and deadlines
- Excellent teamwork skills and ability to collaborate in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- Sedentary work (i.e. sitting for long periods of time);
- Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force;
- Frequently or constantly to lift, carry push, pull or otherwise move objects and repetitive motions;
- Subject to inside environmental conditions; and
- Travel for this position will include less than 5% locally usually for training purposes.
