ROLE OVERVIEW
To date, Fathom's design has been a collaboration between the CEO (who’s also a designer) and an external agency.
We’re now at a level of scale where it makes sense to transition this responsibility to someone dedicated in-house to improve the speed and quality of product improvements.
You will start as a team of one, working directly with the CEO (in the role of head of product) and owning all design decisions. There will be opportunities for leadership as the team grows, but Fathom is intentionally a lean company. We hire slowly and purposefully. We believe in the power of small teams.
The product already has a visual language, but there is still a lot of opportunity for the right person to have a big impact.
YOUR IMPACT: HOW YOU’LL HELP US WIN
Help us ship faster - Save engineering time by thinking ahead, instead of just-in-time iteration we have now (i.e. limit wasted effort by engineering from backtracking once dev has begun)
Make Fathom easier to use even as capabilities become more robust
Uplevel aesthetic to match brand aspirations of high polish consumer app feel
ABOUT THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
Practical - Understands the impact design decisions have on dev time and makes decisions that balance quality and speed of execution.
Product-Minded - We have no PMs at Fathom currently. This person will play that role in UX-focused projects.
Aligned Stylistically - Do we have a shared view of the ideal aesthetic
Fathomy - Low Ego, Smart, Hardworking.
Relevant experience - Experience with 2-3+ SaaS applications. Bonus points for consumer or prosumer app experience.
Design Practitioner - There will be opportunities for leadership, but first and foremost, we're looking for someone excited and experienced at being hands-on. Bonus points for having 1-3 years of team lead experience while still producing.
