About the role
The Operations Engineer I role builds, tests, and implements data and technical solutions with a focus on creating efficiency and scale through technology and automation of Oscar’s infrastructure and underlying logic for core insurance functions.
You will report to the Manager, Operations Engineering.

Pay Transparency:
The base pay for this role is: $103,200 - $135,450 per year. You are also eligible for employee benefits, participation in Oscar’s unlimited vacation program, company equity grants, and annual performance bonuses.
Responsibilities
- Owns the development to production lifecycle of well-defined tasks to enable operational efficiencies, improve quality, and/or contribute to Oscar’s regulatory or strategic needs
- Consults and cross collaborates on technical design and scoping to build and document complex, scalable, and repeatable processes and capabilities
- Develops technical solutions in response to requirements from business stakeholders regarding new product and market expansions, automated workflows, new/improved tooling, and data quality/integrity needs
- Writes correct, stable, modular, and adaptable code with some guidance; capable of consistent delivery of production code with limited oversight
- Contributes to code review and design reviews within their domain
- Catches, responds to, and resolves issues/errors/escalations through investigation to produce insights for short/medium/long-term technology-enabled solutions
- Partners closely with other departments to structure and operationalize the next generation of health insurance operations
- Supports urgent operational needs through on-call rotation; identifies and drives resolution of production issues
- Compliance with all applicable laws and regulations

Qualifications
- A technical bachelor’s degree or 4 years commensurate experience
- 3+ years experience in a technical role (QA analyst, PM, operations analyst, financial engineering, industrial engineering)
- 1+ years of SQL experience
- 1+ years of experience in Python or similar Programming languages (Java, C#, etc.)

- An academic and/or professional background in coding, math, statistics, or data science
- Experience working in dynamic environments, including but not limited to start-up experience
