JOB SUMMARY

The Manager, Software Development manages Software Developers and QA Analysts across multiple delivery teams which use a mix of Scrum and Kanban to deliver new and updated software features within our SaaS products. As a leader in an agile engineering team, Managers are responsible for driving continuous improvement within our teams and processes with the primary goal being the delivery of high quality, scalable software services and components that support our customers’ initiatives worldwide.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Manage and support the delivery team members assigned to the manager through hiring, coaching, mentoring, and hands-on collaboration.
  • Responsible for overall operations, delivery, and performance of the products and services allocated to the delivery teams assigned to the manager.
  • Work directly with Product Owners, Product Managers, and Scrum Masters to help manage in-flight work and ensure proper communication of progress both internally and externally to Higher Logic as appropriate.
  • Provide technical leadership to the delivery teams by guiding the teams in solving complex technical problems to include owning and executing to completion technical problem resolution, technical projects, and goals.
  • Foster and inspire continuous improvement and adoption of best practices across the Engineering department in collaboration with the Engineering leadership team.
  • Work with individuals to develop their skills and competencies in line with the organizational needs and individual career interests.
  • Conduct all business in accordance with Higher Logic policies and procedures.
  • All other duties as assigned.

 

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Ability to serve as a servant leader to guide the teams to maximize their capabilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to architect, build, deliver, operate and maintain SaaS applications with a cloud infrastructure in an agile environment using cloud-native patterns.
  • Strong consulting skills and ability to establish effective working relationships with other business leaders inside and outside Engineering.
  • Able to envision project goals, architectural solutions, clearly communicate requirements and focus on details and tasks to ensure successful implementation.
  • Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills required.
  • Proficiency with SQL and relational database especially at cloud scale.
  • Understand how to utilize Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) processes to deliver software quickly and efficiently.

 

EXPERIENCE DESIRED:

  • Minimum of five years experience developing software in a higher-level language like C#, PHP, Python, or Java.
  • Minimum of two years experience in a technical or team lead role on a software development team.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Directs the work of assigned team(s) to meet the delivery expectations
  • Coordinate with the Product Owners and Product Managers in the planning and delivery of the product roadmap for the delivery teams assigned to the manager.
  • Oversee the identification, prioritization, and resolution of technical debt and risk management issues for the products and services allocated to the delivery teams assigned to the manager.
  • Responsible for availability and performance of the products and services allocated to the delivery teams assigned to the manager. This may require availability for issues that arise outside of normal working hours.
