The Manager, Environmental Compliance oversees and manages, with input from the Environmental Compliance team leadership, environmental studies and associated regulatory compliance for utility-scale solar and battery storage projects. This involves working with internal stakeholders such as the Development, Project Finance, EPCm, and Asset Management and external stakeholders such as consultants, natural resource agencies, and NGOs to plan, budget, and execute environmental studies, obtain necessary permits and/or approvals, and maintain regulatory compliance.
What You'll Do
- Develop detailed scopes, timelines, and budgets for environmental assessments, permitting, and other regulatory compliance documentation.
- Evaluate, select, contract, and manage external environmental consultants.
- Oversee field studies such as aquatic resource delineations, protected species assessments, Phase I & II ESAs, and cultural resource reviews.
- Assess environmental study reports for quality, accuracy, and regulatory compliance.
- Identify environmental risks and impacts, and develop effective strategies for avoidance, minimization, and mitigation.
- Collaborate with community officials, resource agencies, and NGOs to address concerns and ensure appropriate conservation measures are implemented as a result of these engagements.
- Coordinate with resource agencies to help facilitate timely issuance of required environmental permits and/or approvals.
- Review and enhance project screening criteria to account for important environmental considerations.
Must-Haves
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, biology, ecology, or related field preferred.
- 5 or more years’ experience working in renewable energy project development and/or environmental compliance.
- Strategic thinker, problem-solving skills, and strong analytical skills.
- Strong sense of ownership and responsibility for individual work, team goals, and overall project success.
- Strong written and oral communication skills. Must be able to distill complex problems into simple terms with recommendations and actions.
- Preferred experience working in SPP, MISO, and WECC markets.
Working Environment and Physical Demand
- Up to 25% travel for company events, project-related meetings, and conferences.
