Jr Global Fowarding Specialist

Job Summary: 

The Global Forwarding Junior Specialist (Jr. GFS) will manage all air freight forwarding and trucking activities. This position is responsible for coordinating daily transportation services for domestic and international shipments while assisting the specialists and team lead with developing enhanced routes and managing the industry vendors. The team member will operate in a rapidly expanding, high energy and fast-paced environment.

 

 

Job Expectations: 

  • Support the leadership team in managing activities with airlines, air forwarders, trucking companies, ground operations, warehouse operations, and global logistics

  • Schedule and monitor transportation-related activities, including pickups from designated warehouses and deliveries to departure airports in the U.S. on a daily basis 

  • Maintain adequate driver coverage when required for weekdays, weekends, and holidays

  • Work with various internal and external parties and manage international air export bookings and schedules

  • Manage international air movements with a sense of urgency. Ensure correct, on-time departure and arrival, undamaged, low-cost shipping requirements are met for international air shipments

  • Report and resolve capacity issues or delays by working with various air freight forwarders and logistics vendors. Escalate to Lead/Supervisor if issues can’t be resolved timely

  • Keep a record of each shipment, review AWBs, report any discrepancies and alert other teams/departments involved pertaining to shipments

  • Develop and maintain reliable carriers to achieve timely performance

  • Identify the root cause of issues that may arise, suggest and implement corrective actions to prevent issues from recurring

  • Prepare accurate shipping reports for leadership team on a daily basis

  • Identify opportunities to enhance current practices and implement consistent processes across the organization 

  • Review accounting statements and maintain air freight rates

  • Maintain knowledge of freight forwarding, domestic and international shipping regulations

  • Perform other tasks and projects as assigned by the leadership team

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

   Required:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 

  • Proficient in software skills, including Word and Excel

  • Ability to work with little supervision and track multiple processes

  • Outstanding organizational and coordination abilities

  • Detail oriented: attention to accuracy in this role is vital

  • Must have a very strong sense of responsibility for completing tasks and achieving goals

  • Ability to apply knowledge of quality; resolve practical operational problems and deal with a variety of situations in a high pressure environment

  • Ability to self-motivate, work as a team player, and work in a fast paced environment.

Equipment Knowledge: 

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Experience with Google Business Suite (Gmail, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Forms) preferred

  • Experience with WMS, Asana preferred 

 

Experience Requirements:

  • 1+ or more years of experience in Air Freight Forwarding industry

  • Understanding of business processes and operational workflows

  • Understanding of logistics related terminology

  • Bilingual is a plus

 

Education Requirements: 

Bachelor’s Degree preferred, or equivalent experience required.

 

Judgment/Reasoning AbilityAble to identify, troubleshoot and resolve problems quickly using sound judgment, poise and diplomacy.  Ability to use judgment and reasoning skills, and determine when to escalate issues, as required, in a timely manner.

 

Physical Demands:  The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a Team Member to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  While performing the duties of this job, the Team Member is regularly required to talk and hear. The Team Member is frequently required to sit, walk, climb stairs, use hands and fingers, bend, stoop and reach with hands and arms.  Reaching above shoulder heights, below the waist or lifting as required to file documents or store materials throughout the work day.  The Team Member may occasionally lift or move office products and supplies up to 25 pounds.  Proper lifting techniques required.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Hectic, fast-paced with multi-level distractions

  • Weekend and Holiday coverage
