The Team:
The Data Pipeline team builds and operates a collection of services that ensure a reliable, performant and predictable data flow within our cloud product.
We design, build and maintain the ETL pipeline supporting massive amounts of data intake, services that orchestrate pipeline workers, as well as intuitive UIs and APIs to configure the Celonis Data Integration. Made of a group of highly skilled software engineers, product managers, QA engineers and technical program managers, we are passionate about reliability and best-in-class resiliency patterns, linear scalability, low latency, and high availability data pipelines.
The Role:
At Celonis, Engineering Managers are people managers with a strong technical expertise. You will lead a strong team of engineers, overseeing their performance and fostering successful group dynamics to achieve the team's mission. You will provide technical guidance, contribute to critical decisions, and ensure manageable technical complexity to build reliable systems at scale. Collaboration with other teams and departments is crucial, with a focus on supporting their objectives while driving your own. You will operate independently, demonstrating leadership across multiple groups, and jointly define goals aligned with strategic initiatives.
The Work You’ll Do:
- Effectively manage execution and performance of the team; keep the team happy, motivated and effective
- Manage and facilitate the career growth and performance of team members
- Build and maintain a healthy culture of trust, ownership, and collaboration within the team as well as the department
- Contribute technically within the team’s scope, provide technical guidance and get involved in technical work when needed
- Influence the technical vision of the Data Pipeline area
- Collaborate with Product Managers and other leads on goals and strategies around people, technology, and processes
- Set correct priorities and take full ownership of the team’s efficient execution of initiatives, ensuring timely and quality delivery of projects and tasks including long-term, multi-quarter objectives
- Take an active part in hiring and growing the team according to business needs
- Advocate for the whole team; provide upward and outward visibility of the team and their work
Requirements:
- Strong technical background in software engineering, with experience in building and operating large-scale, high-performance, reliable & resilient distributed systems
- Proven track record in people management, including fostering a supportive and inclusive team culture, mentoring, and coaching to facilitate high performance and career growth
- Ability to collaborate effectively with other departments and stakeholders, such as product management and business teams, to define vision, goals, and prioritize initiatives
- Dedication to addressing the evolving needs of engineering teams and a focus on engineering and process excellence
- Experience in managing operationally heavy teams and/or teams closely engaged with customers
- Proficiency in Java, microservices architecture, and Kubernetes
- Expertise in designing data pipelines and managing big data flows
- Knowledge of Agile concepts, including Scrum, Kanban, and Continuous Delivery
