About the Role
We’re looking for a Senior Employment Counsel to join our team and provide employment legal advice across the EMEA region. This is a unique opportunity to be our first international employment lawyer, with the opportunity for expanded scope into APAC. We’re looking for a capable and experienced employment law advisor, as well as a business builder. This role will report to our Senior Director, Associate General Counsel, Employment and will Work in close partnership with our People Team, helping to build our business, operationalize our processes across the globe, and proactively manage risk across many of our locations.
This is a full-time position which can be based out of our Dublin office, or remote in Ireland or the UK.
What You’ll Do
- Provide day to day counseling and support to the People Team on the full employment life cycle ranging from hiring, compensation, diversity and inclusion, leaves, performance management, investigations, accommodations, learning and development, reorganizations, terminations, and employment law-related compliance training.
- Provide risk analysis, assessment, and tailored recommendations for novel risks presented to the business as it relates to employment and global expansion.
- Review, update, and work collaboratively with the People Team and other key leaders on developing and implementing all employment-related policies and practices, including documentation and audits of the same.
- Maintaining industry knowledge, perspective, and networks within the employment law community for technology companies and global companies.
- Manage legal requirements and obligations related to offices across EMEA (with the opportunity to expand into APAC) in connection with local HR and legal partners, including managing EOR/PEO engagements.
- Draft, update, and own key employment law agreement templates across multiple jurisdictions, working with regional outside employment counsel where appropriate
- Provide advice and oversight for immigration and mobility programs
- Manage employee disputes and litigation
- Work closely with other members of the Legal Team on issues such as equity, privacy, and compliance.
Skills We’re Looking For
- At least 8 years of Post Qualification experience specializing in employment law with experience in-house advising on Irish or UK employment legal matters for a multinational company; experience advising on employment matters in other countries such as Netherlands, Germany, France, and Serbia strongly preferred.
- Experience providing practical, flexible and risk-adjusted advice, with an eye toward business impact on a global scale.
- A problem-solving mentality, willing to make a call and be an active decision maker.
- Orientation towards process and operations, and ability to spot and act on improvements to systems, standards, templates, policies and practices that help reduce risk, remove friction, and propel the business.
- Proactive nature - a lawyer who is not afraid to also project manage to ensure essential risk reduction strategies and adjustments are carried through to completion.
- Team orientation first and foremost, with leadership skills that contribute to maintaining a positive team and company culture
- Ability to work independently and closely manage multiple outside counsel across various countries, with the judgment to know when to outsource to outside counsel vs. make a call internally
- Comfort with fast-paced environments and openness to change
- Aptitude for working with diverse stakeholders and rolling with the punches
- Ability and willingness to work across time zones as needed; some travel may be required.
- Qualification to practice law in Ireland or the UK
