Director, Data Product & Product Analytics

As Director, Data Product & Product Analytics, you will report to the Head of Data, as well as continuously collaborate with key stakeholders across the business to solve the most important technical problems.

We're seeking a leader to spearhead management of our data products, including AI & machine learning (ML) solutions, as well as curated data assets. This leader will also drive our digital product analytics initiatives. In this pivotal role, you'll shape the future of our data ecosystem, overseeing the development and deployment of groundbreaking data, AI/ML, and analytics solutions. Your expertise will drive innovation, inform strategic decisions, and elevate our digital product offerings to new heights.

Responsibilities

  • Leadership, Strategy, and Management:

  • Work with the Head of Product and Head of Data to devise and implement a strategy for data products and product analytics

  • Recruit and lead two high-performing remote teams of Data Product Managers and Product Analysts

  • Take ownership of objectives & key results, roadmaps, and allocating resources for your teams

  • Serve as a primary liaison between your teams and senior leadership

  • Provide mentorship and professional development opportunities for your teams

  • Stay abreast of industry trends & best practices in data, AI/ML, & product analytics, and represent our company at industry events

Your Data Product Management team is responsible for the following:

  • Identify opportunities to leverage data & ML/AI to create value; estimate value for each opportunity; own the backlog of data products

  • Prioritize data product development based on value creation (e.g., ROI), strategic goals, and technical feasibility

  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners to ensure that data & AI/ML solutions are integrated into use cases

  • Foster best practices of Agile development, user-centered design, and data-driven decision-making

  • Own the entire lifecycle of data products through conception, development, deployment, operation, and decommissioning

Your Product Analytics team is responsible for the following:

  • Collaborate with engineering partners to proactively instrument our digital products so that product performance can be measured

  • Collaborate with business partners to define and track KPIs that measure data product performance, user adoption, and ROI

  • Develop & maintain dashboards that report performance of our digital products

  • Coordinate A/B testing and other methodologies to quantify product performance and user behavior

  • Develop product analytics capabilities to extract actionable insights from complex datasets

  • Select, integrate, and manage vendor relationships for product instrumentation tools and technologies

Required Experience & Skills

  • BS or MS degree in a relevant field

  • At least 10 years of related experience including the following:

    • At least 5 years managing data technology teams such as data engineering, data science, analytics, or similar

    • At least 3 years as a Product Manager having owned a product roadmap and launched multiple software or data products at scale

    • At least 2 years as an individual contributor in data-related roles such as data engineer, data scientist, data analyst, etc.

  • Because this role will benefit from technical knowledge to guide the management of data products:

    • Strong understanding of principles & approaches to models & algorithms for AI/ML and data analytics

    • Understanding of data storage architectures such as relational databases, data warehouses, data lakes, lakehouses, and data mesh

    • Understanding of data product deployment architectures including microservices & APIs, reverse ETL, and data streaming

  • Proven expertise in devising the most relevant product metrics, estimating them, measuring them, and making them visible to

  • stakeholders

  • Proven expertise in product discovery, user research, and A/B testing methodologies

  • Knowledge of marketing science (e.g., attribution, customer LTV, propensity, uplift models)

  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to create compelling data visualizations

  • Significant experience in product lifecycle management and working in an Agile environment

  • Ability to work effectively in a remote environment using collaborative tools

Preferred Experience & Skills

  • MS in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, Engineering or other quantitative field

  • Expertise in SQL and data querying

  • Hands-on experience with Customer Data Platform tools such as Segment, as well as product analytics platforms such as Mixpanel or

  • Amplitude

  • Familiarity with Large Language Models (LLMs) and other generative AI modalities

  • Proficiency with DataOps, MLOps, and AIOps principles and tools for deploying data products into production

  • Hands-on experience with modern data and AI tools, including cloud-based platforms and open-source frameworks

  • Experience with change management and driving organizational transformation towards data-driven culture

  • Experience utilizing third-party data sources from marketplaces, brokers, and other sources
